The challenge of any manufacturer is to develop\u00a0electric machines with minimum manufacture and maintenance\u00a0costs by accomplishing the performance required by\u00a0the customer. One looks for mathematical models as exact\u00a0as possible as tools for the design and parameter computation.\u00a0As a consequence of the progress of control and power\u00a0electronics, the performances of brushless DC motors have\u00a0been improved. Therefore, the problems of optimal design<br \/>\nand optimal operating mode of such motors are currently\u00a0reported by the technical literature. By exploiting the available\u00a0numerical computation tools, we developed the optimized\u00a0technical design of a brushless DC motor for an electric\u00a0bicycle. The performed simulations emphasize the technical\u00a0performances which accomplish the customer requirements\u00a0as follows: manufacture cost reduction of\u00a027.9%, total cost reduction of 9.11% and a slightly growth\u00a0of the maintenance cost of 8.01%. It is advisable to do a<br \/>\nperiodical optimal re-design, which will take into account\u00a0new performant electrotechnical materials with adequate\u00a0technologies, in order to decrease the fabrication cost and to\u00a0increase the energy efficiency of brushless direct current\u00a0motors.
